The Boat Boys New York Giants Boat Party NFL t-shirt recalls the Miami yacht trip that became tangled up with the Giants’ January 2017 playoff exit. “Boat Boys” refers to the receivers whose off-day party became a lasting football reference for poor preparation and misplaced priorities.

Before their playoff game against the Green Bay Packers, Giants wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz, Sterling Shepard, and Roger Lewis flew to Miami. The players spent their off-day partying on a yacht with musicians including Justin Bieber and Trey Songz. A photo of the receivers posing shirtless in jeans and Timberland boots quickly went viral, putting their boat outing in front of an audience far beyond the yacht.

Then came the playoff game. Green Bay beat New York 38-13, and Beckham and other Giants receivers dropped several key passes. After that loss, the Miami trip became a major media distraction and a source of ridicule, with the party receiving scrutiny alongside the receivers’ performance.

Football fans and media outlets still invoke the “boat trip” or “boat party” when discussing preparation and priorities in the NFL. What happened on an off-day before the Packers game remains attached to the Giants’ postseason defeat, keeping those two words, “Boat Boys,” loaded with the aftermath of a 38-13 loss.
